What Is a Urinary Tract Infection? A urinary tract infection occurs when an infection occurs in your urinary system, which includes your bladder, kidneys, ureters and/or urethra. Depending on the severity of the infection, as well as what body part it’s impacting, you may experience a variety of symptoms:

Symptoms of a UTI

  • Blood in urine
  • Burning sensation when peeing
  • Cloudy urine
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Foul smell from urine
  • Frequent urination
  • Pain in bladder
  • Pain when urinating
  • Vaginal irriation

Who Is At Risk for a UTI?

Anyone can experience a urinary tract infection, but the anatomy of women’s bodies places them at higher risk. Women may also experience recurrent UTIs requiring special prophylactic treatment.

Treatment for a UTI

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Take antibiotics as prescribed.
  • Use a heating pad on the abdominal area.
  • Take an OTC pain medication if needed for discomfort.
