What Is Walking Pneumonia?
Walking pneumonia, a milder form of pneumonia, occurs when a bacterial infection affects your upper and lower respiratory tract.
More than 2 million cases of walking pneumonia appear every year. While the medical condition is mostly experienced by school-age children and adults under 40, anyone is at risk.
Symptoms of Walking Pneumonia
- Inflammation of windpipe
- Persistent cough
- Sore throat
- Upset stomach
How Long Does Walking Pneumonia Last?
Fortunately, when you experience walking pneumonia, the symptoms aren’t as severe as with regular pneumonia, and you don’t usually have to stay in bed 24⁄7.
However, it still can last a week or two, depending on how severe the symptoms of walking pneumonia get.
Treatment of Walking Pneumonia
- Take any medications as prescribed by the doctor.
- Drink a lot of fluids, especially water.
- Get plenty of rest.
- Take OTC medications to relief symptoms, including fever and aches.
